Construction of a gymnasium and theatre classrooms at Lionel-Groulx College

The sports block and the theatre pavilion are the first steps in a vast redevelopment project that has enabled Collège Lionel-Groulx to respond to the region's demographic growth.

In response to an increase in its student population, Collège Lionel-Groulx has implemented a series of expansion projects since 2009. The architects LLA/DMA planned the overall plan for this work in addition to building the Sports Complex, the Theatre Pavilion, the Nature Wing and the Student Agora.
Each of these projects is designed to solve internal circulation problems by organizing functional axes or introducing vertical circulation mechanisms to recreate functional links between different parts of the building.
The proposed concept is based on a desire to clearly identify spaces in different zones by introducing bright colours and large lettering for easy and intuitive orientation and location.
The theatre pavilion initiative has made it possible to group activities together in order to create a real hub for teaching the performing arts. The project includes rehearsal rooms, costume-making workshops, prop storage and classrooms.
