Expansion of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Awards and Honours

1993 - OAQ Mention of Excellence

The extension of the museum is marked by the large atrium beyond the portico but spans the entire width of the city block. In addition to the transformation, the project also provides a connection to the original 1912 museum.

The expansion project of the Museum of Fine Arts of Montreal consisted of three parts of which two were renovations: the original 1912 structure on the corner of Sherbrooke and MacKay streets and a series of eight Victorian houses on Crescent Street.
The third and most important part of the project was the construction of a new pavilion, connected to the others, that included exhibition galleries, workshops and storage facilities, boutiques, a cafeteria and public spaces, such as the Great Hall and the Winter Garden, as well as administrative offices.
