The design of the new Gerald-Godin College in St. Genevieve included the conversion and rehabilitation of the old Pères de St. Croix monastery and the construction of an addition with a functional program of 14 300 m2. The project stands out for its innovative re-use and complete modernization of the original spaces, principally for the use of administrative and teaching offices and for its re-use of the largest spaces, a Library in the original Chapel and a student Agora in the old recreation hall.
The addition was designed to include the classrooms and laboratories as well as the cafeteria. The project also included a double gymnasium and multi-purpose theatre/concert hall , all located underground. The design of the complex focused on the insertion of a modern teaching environment into a setting of exceptional quality with the desire to optimize the existing structure and its inherent powerful architectural presence and to express the contemporary nature of the College's educational program.
