Since 2009, in response to the constantly changing student population, Lionel-Groulx College has implemented a series of expansion projects. LLA/DMA Architects planned the Space Planning document of these works as well as the realisation of the Sports Complex, the Theater pavilion, the Nature Wing and the Agora. Each project was designed to resolve internal circulation problems, by re-organizing the main functional axes, and by introducing vertical circulation to create new links between the diff erent parts of the building.
The 2-level Sports Complex includes a gymnasium, weight room, aerobics training room and locker rooms. The main part of the new building forms a cube, clad with zinc sheets, supported on a brick masonry base creating a visual connection with the roofi ng of the old seminary.
The theatre pavilion project allowed for the activities to be grouped together with all the other stage education activities, creating a true centre for stage arts education. The project included rehearsal rooms, costume design workshops, prop storage and classrooms.
